Blow Drying Basics 101 by Michelle Fine

Popular topic behind the chair is how to achieve a better blow dry. Starting with a good foundation is key to a great result. I have ideas that will help you look your best. So let’s get started!!!!!
-Remove excess moisture from hair first by towel drying and then rough drying with the dryer. Leaving too much moisture in the hair will make for longer drying time.
-Apply product. Products help us achieve our desires look. In the case of frizz, they are a necessity to keep control of your hair. I like products that have smoothing abilities. My favorite is Pureology’s Shinemax Serum and Antisplit Blowdry Serum. My reasoning is because it protects hair from mechanical damage. Mechanical damage meaning what we do to our hair from round brushing, flat ironing, teasing etc.
-Use your concentrator nozzle. The concentrator nozzle helps keep airflow direction contained. Using the nozzle, you will notice less frizz and quicker drying time. Also while drying your hair you can hold the dryer by its nose to make it easier. Sam Villa’s blowdryer is great to use because it’s made from carbon fiber, which is a strong lightweight material. Another advantage is the outside does not get hot.
-Once you start to dry your hair another important tip is to dry your hair down the hair shaft or direction of hair growth. This will help the cuticle of the hair lay down. Drying your hair in the opposite direction will rough the hair ending in a frizzy result. Using a vent or paddle brush will help keep hair tangle free and assist in a better result. Vent brushes made by Sam Villa are my favorite because the hair glides right through the brush. They are gentle on the scalp too. Don’t forget to section off hair. This will help make sure all hair strands are being dried properly. Tension and heat is what styles hair.

I know these basic tips will help you achieve a better end result. After 10 years behind the chair this has always been a common question inspiring me to share this knowledge with all of you!!!
